E-Commerce continues its significant global expansion, maintaining strong momentum well into 2026. According to Shopify's Global Ecommerce Sales Growth Report, worldwide retail e-commerce sales reached approximately USD 6.42 trillion in 2025 and are projected to reach USD 6.88 trillion in 2026, a 7.2% year-over-year increase, now representing 21.1% of total global retail activity. This sustained growth has fostered a diverse ecosystem of online selling platforms. Among the prominent tools available for businesses leveraging social commerce is the established Facebook Shops feature, allowing companies to create integrated storefronts on Facebook and Instagram.
What is Facebook Shops?
Facebook Shopsis a service that aims to provide a seamless online shopping experience by allowing businesses to display and sell products directly from their Facebook page or Instagram profile. Business owners can select products they want featured from their catalog, and even customize the look and feel of their shop with a cover image and matching accent colors to better showcase their brand. Through this endeavour, Facebook intends to connect business owners, regardless of their size or budget, to customers all around the world.
Why should I use Facebook Shops?
According to Meta's Q4 2025 investor report, Facebook now has 3.07 billion monthly active users — making it the world's largest social platform, while Meta's full family of apps collectively reaches 3.98 billion monthly active people. Users spend an average of 30.9 minutes on Facebook and 33.1 minutes on Instagram daily, per eMarketer data compiled by AWISEE. With over 70 million small business pages already on Facebook (GetAFollower, 2026), adding your business to Shops is one of the most effective ways to broaden reach, engage customers, and drive sales — at low cost.
In any case, adding your business to another platform such as Facebook Shops can broaden reach, and reports indicate millions of businesses utilize Meta's commerce tools. But what notable features does Shops have?
Key Features of Facebook Shops
Facebook Shops provides integrated storefronts for businesses — you can learn more about its features from Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook live video, which you can see here:
If you don’t want to watch the video, we’ve compiled the list of features in this handy guide explaining we know so far.
Easy Set Up
If you're already present on Facebook or Instagram and have a catalog of products set up, then Facebook will automatically set up your own Facebook Shop for you without you having to do anything at all. If you're already on Shopify or other business back-end tools, a few clicks can let you import your inventory and set up your Facebook Shop quickly. Even if you're a new business owner who's just about to create a Facebook or Instagram page, setting up a Facebook Shop is easy — it simply requires cataloging your products via Commerce Manager and highlighting what you want featured.
Streamlined Shopping Experience
Aside from Shops being easy and free to create, once you've set it up on Facebook or Instagram, customers can easily browse your featured products, view detailed descriptions, and add items to cart. Note: As of mid-2025, Meta shifted the checkout experience to website-based checkout. When customers are ready to buy, they are redirected to your own website to complete the purchase, giving businesses more control over the checkout process, branding, and post-purchase experience. Product discovery — browsing, collections, and product pages — still takes place natively within Facebook and Instagram.
E-Commerce Integration
Zuckerberg announced that they're partnering with Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Channel Advisor, CedCommerce, Tienda Nube, Feedonomics, and Cafe24 to allow small businesses to integrate with a strong and open ecosystem of tools. This will help them manage their customer journey from start to finish, while giving them the freedom to determine how much they want to integrate.
Cross-Platform Consistency
Shops are accessible from all Facebook-owned apps, Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp — and can be shown in stories or highlights and appear in ads across the platforms. This means that when you set up a Shop, you can sell your products from both your Instagram and Facebook pages. When it comes to questions, support, or tracking deliveries, customers can also message you through WhatsApp, Messenger, or Instagram Direct.
Dedicated Panels for Shops
Facebook wants your business to be seen, and to do this, they've launched features across their apps to help people discover small businesses. A dedicated Shop tab on Instagram and a destination inside the Explore tab are fully live, letting customers find and buy products with ease. Businesses can also tag products directly in posts and Stories, making it simple for customers to click through to your catalog from organic content.
Facebook Live Shopping on Facebook was discontinued in October 2022 as Meta shifted its video commerce focus toward short-form Reels, which remain a key discovery tool for driving traffic to your Shop.
AI and AR Usage
Facebook has integrated AI and augmented reality (AR) into Shops to create a better shopping experience. AI now automatically identifies and tags products throughout your feed, making it easy to click through to purchase items you might like. AR try-on is also a live feature, allowing customers to virtually try on products such as sunglasses, lipstick, and other makeup, as well as visualize furniture in a room before buying.
Looking ahead, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced in January 2026 that new agentic shopping tools are in development, which will allow people to find highly specific products from businesses in Meta's catalog, pointing to further AI-powered personalization of the shopping experience.
In a nutshell
Facebook Shops is a fully established and continuously evolving e-commerce platform, providing strong potential for businesses in the Philippines and beyond. The features, from easy setup and cross-platform consistency to AI-powered product discovery and AR try-ons, offer a compelling storefront for online shops. As highlighted by Shopify's 2026 global ecommerce data, social commerce is projected to approach USD 80 billion in the US alone by 2025, with social network-driven sales accounting for more than 17% of total online sales, making platforms like Facebook Shops increasingly central to any digital commerce strategy.
